ROBOCATS?
The World Feline Community Asks Tough Questions!
The world internet community had very strong reactions to our exclusive report "Robocat About to Replace Real House Cats!"
We asked the question, "Robokoneko - Harbinger of Things to Come?"
The buzz in the internet newsgroups was immediate and revealing! Here is a sample of the way people all over the world reacted to
the late-breaking news of mad Japanese scientists seeking to replace our beloved house cats with an infernal machine!
Nonsense-! Will a robokitty have as beautiful a coat of fur as mine does? Will it wait on top of the mailbox for me to get home like
she does? I don't think so.
- demodisk@dibbs.net / rec.pets.cats.misc
I think the RoboKitty is the ideal pet for people who want a cat but don't want it to BE a cat. Maybe this will actually benefit some
cats. If you want to put time and energy into 'stopping' something stop for example, the breeding of the deformed 'twisty' cats.
IMO the sad thing is how 'real' cats are treated that people need to get worked up about. They ARE disposable pets already take
a look in the shelters! Let me tell you I'd be more worried about Microsoft's Barney taking over the world and damaging children
than RoboKitties.
- sea_witch@what.email.com / rec.pets.cats.misc
Not for me! Part of having a cat is getting snarled at and swatted at once in a while, usually when you've done something to
annoy it. What a bland existence to have something go, "Meow, meow," on command. Do you put water in it so it can pee on
your furniture on command? Forget it, Bob.
- Robert F. Symington / alt.animals.felines
I agree, Bob. "Infernal invention" tickled me in particular. There will never be a mechanical cat who understands infernal the way
a typical kitten does without even trying.

Robokittiez wouldn't reely love humins, they'd only simulate it. Who needs fake love?

Robotz got no solez. Kittiez gotz beeyutiful solez!
- dmansd@aol.com (DMansD) / rec.pets.cats.community
Sorry, not concerned in the least. It sounds like all those articles in the '60's that predicted rocket cars, computer controlled traffic,
and taxis to the moon. A technical oddity.....
- EearlK@my-dejanews.com / rec.pets.cats.misc
Robokitties? Hey, why not? Let's replace our beloved pets with machines! Yeah, and while we're at it, why not our kids??
Robokids would be a lot less messy and a lot better behaved. Hey, and why not our spouses? My Robohubby would have no
problem doing whatever chore I ask him to do, AND he wouldn't ever say I was nagging him! Y'know, this Robokitty thing might
have potential...

Great for those who want to DECLAW:-):-)
- Odette Brown - au273@FreeNet.Carleton.CA / rec.pets.cats.misc
Well, as long as they don't need litter boxes, I don't think that will be a problem. I wonder if they will make a guard cat version
(with built-in smoke detector) or if the robots will come with a "meow mute" button. As far as the "people-who-love-their-machines"
syndrome, have you ever seen the way some folks feel about their cars, furniture, or other major appliances? Or their computers!
- keethieDRAT@keethie.net / alt.animals.felines
Maybe so. But let's not all just jump on the technology must be evil bandwagon also. It is so easy to immediately assume that
since it is new and never heard of before it must be bad. Infernal? Isn't this a bit overreacting?
Here, let me tell you what good could come out of this. For one thing those allergic to cats can own a cat that would simuolate the
real thing without worrying about bad allergies. It could teach a child how to take care of a living being without actually harming a
living being. The fake cat dies or is unhealthy, kid doesn't get real cat. New jobs, you mention vets who can't work on the cat, well,
um, I don't think they will be expected to, their job is with living creatures. Let an engineer deal with the electric cat. People who
would be too lazy to take proper care of a real cat can get these instead.
Oh... and I seriously doubt that robot cats would take the place of having a real cat.... I just don't see people who can live with a
real cat (not allergic to them) wanting to relace their real cat with a computer program.

Ok folks, I feel I must defend the folks at ErotiCat from the flame-fest that seems likely to ensue over their post regarding RoboKitty.
These folks appear to have a rather esoteric sense of humor, as evidenced by their website (a wonderful parody of all the porn
websites out there, with a disclaimer warning the viewer that their pages contain feline nudity). Please don't take everything you read
so seriously.

(A distinguished tuxedo-cat can be seen trying mightily to maintain his usual dignified composure as he telepathinks to his
human typist.)
Mr. TSE writing:
All I can say is "HrrrummmphhHissss!" That is, when I'm not rolling on the floor in laughter like a kitten it its first pile of catnip!
(He excuses himself from the room for a moment, lest his laughter should blow the computer off the desk. He returns with no
little residual chuckling, quite unable to hide a laugh-tear or two.)
By the tail of our lady Bastet the Sleek! What are those indescribably silly persons thinking of?
Do they not know that electrical-electronic artifices attract greeblings? And do they not understand that the more sophisticated the
artifice the more greeblings it attracts? Have they learned no lessons at all from the problems inherent in the present generation
of computers, even the small desktop computers such as so many of our rpcc humans use?
Any device with even a fraction of the artificial behavioral (forget about intellect) complexity to simulate a cat will attract so many,
and so troublesome, greeblings that it will never truly succeed.
I am not entirely certain that I desire to live long enough to hear the howls of anguish from the first human who attempts to "adopt"
a supposedly fully functional robotic-katzen and keep it in a household for any length of time. The magnitude and degree of disaster
that would be caused by such a concentration of greeblings in a space the size of a human home (even a very large one) is
something I hesitate to attempt to describe!
Folly, folly, folly! This is an idea that even Murphy-the-Apocryphal would not want to touch with the proverbial ten-foot AirWick.
Hurrrrummmphhh!!
