Lovely Creature

Lounging in the sun, your sleepy gaze has the power of Mesmer. I am transfixed, hooked like a Starship Enterprise tractor beam. My clock is the only sound I hear, save a soft thud on the floor ... a furry whip that reminds me I am in your power. Lovely creature.

Ode to Psylocke

i want to pet you.
you want to sleep.
i want to play.
you want to eat.
i bring home more kitties.
you raise a fit.
i give them away.
you have a snit.

but in the dark
when i cannot sleep
you climb into bed
and offer me peace.

so you want more treats.
i give what i have.
so you want more petting.
i offer more hands.
my goddess divine
without you i am lost.
you purr in the night
you chew on my socks.

but in the dark
when head pounds like nails
you wrap around my throat
and offer me a tail.

though there are others
one small and one white
you darling are my queen
my darkness and light.

Thoughts on the feline form

"ErotiCat! ErotiCat! Your sensuous form populates my appreciative eyes! Oh what a furry, funny, funky feline friend you are! Aloof and distant. Pouting and purring. You sweep your alluring tail on my velvet bed, teasing me! Present me now with your warm belly. Let me pet you. Let me pet you. Let me pet you."

Tony Lane, from Sydney, Australia, writes to share a story about the origin of cats! Tony has three cats: Nero, a five year-old Somali,"very affectionate but wilful" ... Claudius, a five year-old Chocolate Siamese, "a one-man cat who treats everyone else very snobbishly" ... and Alby who is a ten year-old stumpy Manx. "Alby is very shy but surprisingly bad tempered when hassled!"

"The following story isn't original, but I can't remember where it came from ... Regards, Tony"

Where do pets come from? A new Genesis story

A newly discovered chapter in the Book of Genesis has provided the answer to the question "Where do pets come from?"

Adam said, "Lord, when I was in the garden, you walked with me every day. Now I do not see you anymore. I am lonesome here and it is difficult for me to remember how much you love me." And God said, "No problem! I will create a companion for you that will be with you forever and who will be a reflection of my love for you, so that you will love me even when you cannot see me. Regardless of how selfish or childish or unlovable you may be, this new companion will accept you as you are and will love you as I do, in spite of yourself."

And God created a new animal to be a companion for Adam. And it was a good animal. And God was pleased. And the new animal was pleased to be with Adam and he wagged his tail. And Adam said, "Lord, I have already named all the animals in the Kingdom and I cannot think of a name for this new animal." And God said, "No problem. Because I have created this new animal to be a reflection of my love for you, his name will be a reflection of my own name, and you will call him 'Dog'."

And Dog lived with Adam and was a companion to him and loved him. And Adam was comforted. And God was pleased. And Dog was content and wagged his tail. After a while, it came to pass that Adam's guardian angel came to the Lord and said, "Lord, Adam has become filled with pride. He struts and preens like a peacock and he believes he is worthy of adoration. Dog has indeed taught him that he is loved, but perhaps too well."

And God said, "No problem! I will create for him a companion who will be with him forever and who will see him as he is. The companion will remind him of his limitations, so he will know that he is not always worthy of adoration."

And God created Cat to be a companion to Adam. And Cat would not obey Adam. And when Adam gazed into Cat's eyes, he was reminded that he was not the supreme being. And Adam learned humility. And God was pleased. And Adam was greatly improved. And Dog was happy. And the Cat didn't give a shit one way or the other.

Subject: Request for Story Submissions

I am writing to share an idea and to ask for your support. I am compiling stories and poems by people who have in some way rescued or aided an animal in need. These stories will go into a book that I hope to have published, and all proceeds from the sale of the book will go directly to animal welfare organizations. The book will also include a section about what to do for a lost, injured, neglected or abused animal, and a section about how to become involved in activist organizations and what one can do to help animals. If an author included in the book is a member of a given animal-welfare organization, the author will have the option to include a description of that organization's mission or purpose.

Famous people such as Jane Goodall, Cleveland Amory and Diane Fossey have worked in invaluable ways to improve thousands of lives. Numerous books describe how animals benefit humans physically, emotionally and spiritually. I believe, however, that acts of compassion performed by regular people are what others really need to hear about. Stories about everyday people enriching the lives of animals. By sharing their stories, our neighbors, friends and acquaintances will inspire and empower others to help.

As an animal-welfare activist living in Portland, Ore., I work for the Sierra Club and In Defense of Animals, and spend my spare time focusing on animal-welfare projects including an anti-trapping ballot initiative, an anti-circus ordinance and this writing project. Through my work in places such as a wildlife hospital and a potbellied pig sanctuary - and my experience as an animal-welfare activist - I have witnessed the worst and best in people. I continue to be touched by the humbling and majestic nature of the non-human animals I have known.

I welcome stories from everyone. Please pass this announcement to anyone who you think may have stories to share. Your help in recruiting stories is greatly appreciated.

Thank you sincerely,

Subject: just call me the cat lady

Hello. I just felt like sharing my funny story about how I became the "cat lady".

I have one cat, an indoor cat who bays night and day whenever the neighborhood strays are in heat. I also have this habit of leaving out bowls of food and water ... a fact every stray around here knows. At first my cat's attempts at getting through the glass to the strays kept them away, but I started putting a handful of pounce treats out.

Now I have one I call ''Socks'' who comes and goes ...''Ms. Cindy" who appears once a month ...''Toulon and Elsa'' who come by every night and stay on my patio for a few hours. They're my favorite. Toulon is magnificent. So gorgeous and unusual, twice Elsa's size, but she calls the shots ... very bold, likes to talk to me through the glass but won't let me pet her ...only Socks allows that.

As I speak, Elsa is chatting away at me and my Mr.Chris. Toulon watches Elsa and me from the wall of the patio.

The kids around here call me the cat lady and have brought their cats by when they needed help with them. They are such a joy. I am sick and don't get out much and have no children. These beautiful incredible animals that others put out and left have become my happiest moments. Looking at them I wonder how anyone could turn away from them. Even through their distrust they have given me memories I will cherish forever ... so I guess you could just call me the cat lady.

So from me, my husband, our Mr. Chris...and our friends Ms. Cindy, Socks, Elsa and Toulon....Merry Christmas, Happy Channukah and seasons greetings!

What is a cat?

Cats do what they want.
They rarely listen to you.
They're totally unpredictable.
They whine when they are not happy.
When you want to play, they want to be alone.
When you want to be alone, they want to play.
They expect you to cater for their every whim.
They're moody.
They leave hair everywhere.
They drive you nuts and cost an arm and a leg.

Conclusion: They're tiny little women in cheap fur coats.

"It pays the bills Meepy"

I know that you hate my job. I know that you feel like i am cheating on you when i snuggle them close and sometimes kiss their foreheads. I know that you are disgusted when you snuggle up to me and smell them on my clothes. I know you feel jipped when you don't even get any lovin on my way in the house because I need to run and get a shower. I know you get mad when i suggest bringing one of the regulars home with me. I know you wonder if I still love you. I do love you. It's hard working at the shelter, but it pays the bills

Here is a poem written by Sally Balogh ( sajaweba@home.com ) published in the November, 1995 issue of Cat Fancy's Creative Corner, a forum for subscribing members to tell stories about their cats. See the subjects of Sally's poem in the ErotiCat Gallery.

A Tale of Two Kitties

We have one cat Inspector Felicia is she,
Whatever can be found
Gets a close scrutiny.
We have one cat Czar Alexander is he,
So proud on his chair He thinks he's royalty.
We have one cat Six pounds she does weigh,
Fearless she races through
The house every day.
We have one cat
Twelve pounds he does weigh,
He sleeps wherever he
Can find the sun's ray.
We have one cat
Who thinks she's free,
To make a quick exit out
Every door she can see.
We have one cat
So timid is he,
Halfway in and halfway out
He stops to think "Oh, gee."
We have two cats
So different are they,
But we love them both
Each and every day.

Lap boy

There you are. Where have you been hiding?
Come here little boy. Yes, you're such a cute little boy.
Come here.

I know you're not allowed on the couch. But I'll make an exception this time.
You're so cute. Look at that face.
Yes, you're stupid, but I like you anyway.
Sit right here. That's it.
Now let me climb on your lap and shut up.
I need to get some sleep. Make sure my food's ready when I get up.

Purr, purr, purr, purr.

Oh, I forgot to tell you. There's vomit on your pillow. You might want to clean that up.

Purr, purr, purr ...

The Vet

Come here my little fur fiend. Get down from those curtains. Just relax. See the nice carrier box? I’ve placed some num-nums in there for you. You have to come now. Raoul is waiting. He’s a nice man, really. He thinks you're cute. I promise he’ll be gentle. You can close your eyes and pretend it’s not happening. You won’t feel a thing. No, don’t run away! Come back. Gawd, why do we have to go through this every time?

- AQ

You sell your love for num-nums

"Furball of love ... this ode is for you. Don't walk away from me like that. Come here. Have you no love to give? Don't you care ... about us? Come back! Let me stroke your tail. You can be so cruel! The Cowboy Junkies should write a song about you. Margo Timmins too. Come here. Must I bribe you again? Ok, ok ... I'll give you num-nums. You make me feel so cheap when you do that."
