SEXIEST CAT OF THE MILLENNIUM

"GARFIELD"

"My Cat, my love, my life ..."

"Meet Garfield, my cat, my love, my life," writes Christine Zambopoulou, of Athens, Greece, who is submitting her sexy boy as the Sexiest Cat of the Millennium. "Garfield came to my life in January 1994. I found him through an ad ... so we found each other. He was already one year old when I took him in."

"As you can see from his pictures he’s of royal size, about 25 pounds, orange, long hared tabby, 7 years old, and probably one of his ancestors was a Maine coon. One of his forefathers must have been a Holy Cat in ancient Egypt, which would well explain his attitude of a living god. Another one must have been a boar, which may be the clue to his grace and table manners," she says.

"He was dominant from the first moment. He rarely comes to my lap. He prefers sleeping on my feet, taking royal positions. He enjoys torturing me in those unique feline ways. That is, when he decides he wants to go out at the balcony at 03:00 to chase after stray kittens.

"Recently, another kitten has entered our lives. She’s a young female tabby named Spitha. That’s the Greek word for Sparkle. And Garfield has assumed a protective role over her.

"My cat has learned to open doors… Not the door to the fridge, but in the future, who knows… He fully understands every word I say. When I give him an order, like “sit down now!” he does it with a completely innocent expression. And when I turn my back he goes on doing what I just told him not to. He also enjoys cartoons, especially the Roadrunner. And then he wants to act like one… with all of his 25 pounds running around the house… Just like he does right now, because he hates it when I use the computer. He comes and bites my right arm, demanding attention."

Here is how Christine describes the way she believes Garlfield meets our criteria for the Sexiest Cat of the Millennium:

Beauty
"He is soft and fluffy when he lies in the bed beside me. His fur color matches his eyes and at times he looks just like a lion. His tale is a magnificent one! Long, with light orange long fur, which he spends hours grooming. His paws are soft to the touch, his whiskers long in various colors, from white to dark orange. He is a sight for sore eyes when he greets me every morning and every night when I come home from work."

Poise
"Despite his weight and size, he’s very agile. He once took a walk around the block on the Balcony bars. My brother who saw him and brought him back in could not believe his eyes. When he plays with his younger companion, I can see some amazing jumps. Not these of a kitten, but amazing non-the less. His agility usually increases by the sound of the can-opener…"

Intelligence
"He can open doors. When I put the kitten outside to get some sleep, he goes and opens the door for the kitty to come jump on my bed. (They’ve teamed up against me). He drinks water from a dropping tap. He recognizes my car’s sound when I come home. He uses different mews for different things (all in the “I want” subject). He brings me his mouse pet to rewind it when it stops. He watches TV cartoons (mainly Roadrunner)."

Character
"Do you know the animated Garfield by Jim Davis? That’s my cat. He has the attitude of a living god. I am there to serve him. To feed him, groom him, pet him, and, last but not least, clean the litterbox. And all these, when HE feels like it. He rests on the bed/couch/ TV/whatever staring at nothing, while his mind ponders upon the mysteries of the universe. And late at night, he crawls beside my on the bed, purring shoftly and petting my face, in his own, unique way of saying “I love you”. He hasn’t got many tender moments, but these few ones are the most precious…"

"In ancient Egypt, there was a cat-headed Goddess named Bast. In her city at Bubastis, in Her Temple, there were many holy cats. My estimation is that Garfield is a reincarnation of one of these holy cats. It’s the only theory that explains his attitude of a living God. Plain cat or living God, I love him crazy. He’s my Garfield, my cat, my life."
