Hike to Bernard town, Jamaica |
"Exploring your roots" has always appealed to me. Carol's parents are both from the same remote rural area near Mandeville, Jamaica. The day when we explored where they had lived was one of the highlights of my trip.
Paul is amused by something; Carol is amused by me | Carol and the present owner of Carol's mother's childhood home in Bath, Manchester. |
On to Bernard town... | Bernard town is not accessible by road. Carol's grandfather and father farmed the land there before building a house and moving his family to the site. The path we took was about 20 minutes hike from the road and a bit of a climb.
The path is narrow and few there be that pass by it... |
The house at Bernard town, now sits unused | Carol, watching her step, before going inside |
The cookhouse, next to the main house |
Thos. A. Bernard's gravesite between the house and the land he worked | Paul, Phillip and Miguel, our guide on this hike |
End of Hike! | ||
