How Much Is That Doggie In The Window?

SCROLL DOWN TO SEE THE PHOTOS OF THE DOGS WHICH ARE CURRENTLY UP FOR ADOPTION

Here are some of the dogs that are looking for a new home to belong to. If you'd like to inquire about adopting one of them, please contact us - we'd be glad to tell you more about them and arrange for you to meet them...

General Information Pertaining to Dog Adoptions...

Many people question the cost of adopting a dog, we charge $350.00 for a dog
As a registered charity we are not supposed to make money and we certainly don't.

NOTE: Many of our dogs are injured when they come in and need x-rays, ultrasounds, expensive surgeries and/or medication which increases the cost significantly. Since September 2001 we have spent over $300,000 in vet bills. Adoption fees are necessary for us to continue rescuing these wonderful dogs who otherwise would end up dead in most cases.

If a dog has already been vet checked before we take it, then it is not necessary to do the flea treatment or de worm it, sometimes it is already spayed/neutered, this does not decrease the cost of the dog, that money goes to the next dog who may need surgery or expensive medical treatment, either way your adoption fee remains the same and you can consider it money well spent.

We have received notification from a few of the main hospitals that give us discounts;
they are increasing our discounted fees. We are struggling as it is to stay
within our budget. Registered charities are required to spend almost all the money
they raise. None of us find that a problem. Because of this new fee schedule we
need to increase our adoption fees. We hope everyone understands we are not
making money here we are just struggling to stay afloat another year.

Effective May 31, 2008 adoption fees for all dogs will be $350.00 fees include spay/neuter and shots
Puppies(fees include spay/neuter, deworming and first shot)

Teddy

This good natured, lovable little Teddy Bear is between 2 and 3 years old and only weighs 5.6 kg (12 pounds). His breed mix is unknown, (there may be some Pomeranian in him) - I just call him “ADORABLE”. Teddy’s shots are up to date and he will be neutered shortly. Teddy gets along fine with the three resident and one other foster dog (and seriously thinks he can beat the big retrievers to the ball!), but he would also be perfectly happy as the only pampered dog in the household. (Cats are an unknown). He is extremely friendly with people, very playful and very smart - with a bit of an independent streak. He will wander (read that as escape under the fence!) if allowed and has had no obedience training, so until he is obedience trained, a leash or secure fenced area is necessary when he is outside. This little guy loves nothing more than being hugged and cuddled and played with. Teddy only barks if he hears a strange noise, and then it is a surprisingly low-pitched and quiet bark. Teddy will make some lucky person or family a loving and fun companion.

Puddin'

Pudding is a sweet 5 year-old Yorkshire mix who is very affectionate. He is up to date on his shots and has just been neutered. Pudding loves to meet new people and go for car rides so he can feel the wind on his face as he sticks his head out the window. He loves going for walks at the dog park or around the block and gets along great with other dogs. He is also very content hanging out in the house with his owner. Pudding likes to cuddle on the couch, play with his toys and loves getting brushed and bathed. He is house-trained and very intelligent: he knows basic obedience (sit, stay, shake a paw, lie down and roll over). He is also good with children. However, Pudding would be better suited for a family with no cats. He does not bark very much, except when he comes face to face with cats. Pudding would love a forever family and would be a great addition to a dog-loving household.

Bailey

This gentle, sweet, gorgeous girl is Bailey, a two year old Golden Retriever mix. Bailey is looking for a new home due to illness in her family. She is house trained, spayed and her shots are up to date. Bailey is crate trained but her original family no longer crated her when they went to work and she behaved perfectly roaming free in the house. This beautiful girl (with the softest fur I have ever felt) lives up to her retriever side. Bailey does need lots of exercise. Swimming, chasing the ball and going for walks are some of her favourite activities. She also loves to ride in the car. Initially Bailey is a little wary of new people, but once she knows them she is fine and loves to be cuddled. She grew up with children in the household and also behaved beautifully with my two young granddaughters. Bailey currently lives with three resident and one other foster dog. Cats are an unknown. She would do very well as an only dog, or as a companion to another gentle-natured dog. This lovely, sweet girl will steal your heart.

Turq

"Turq is a sweet and affectionate shitzhu mix. At 8 years old, he is a delightful balance of energy and calm - he loves his walks, but he settles quickly for quiet time. He loves to snuggle in beside you on the couch or in bed. He also seems to enjoy sleeping late in the morning! Turq will do a little happy dance when you put your shoes on, hoping that he gets to go with you. He also loves riding in the car, especially if he's allowed to stick his head out the window and feel the wind in his face and let his ears fly in the wind. Turq shows little interest in our cats inside the house, although he would like to give chase if he sees them outside. He is however, a nervous barker when he meets new dogs. My feeling is that he has been poorly socialized to other dogs and hasn't figured out how to properly approach them yet. He is especially bad if he is on leash. That being said, I think he could be retrained to enjoy the company of other dogs, as he gets on well with our dog and will settle with new dogs if they ignore him. Turq is suited to living in a house or an apartment as he is very well housetrained and does not bark excessively. He would do best in a household without small children, but would do fine with respectful older children. He would be very happy with an owner who is looking for a sweet tempered, small dog on whom to lavish attention and love. He might also be a good therapy dog.
ps. Turq has had a visit to the groomer since this photo was taken and since he was matted and dirty he had to have his coat shaved. It will grow back, but keep in mind that he will have to be brushed to keep his coat in good condition."

Rosy

Rosy is a 6yr old Boxer mix. She is medium size and a little pleasantly plump! She presently lives
in a house with no other animals but has been taking full advantage of the off leash dog park around the corner (where she is well behaved with other dogs but is still trying to understand what this play thing is all about) She also very much enjoys the buzz of her downtown neighbourhood. She likes accompanying her foster parents everywhere and is even happy just even relaxing on a crowded patio and watching the world go by, even children swirling around do not seem to phase her very much. She likes nothing more than to be around her family and likes attention. If you want to make her happy, just play with her and give her some affection and you'll be her new best friend.

Although we are not quite sure of her full background we know that she can walk off leash, give paw, sit, stay, and she even learned to let "humans" walk through doors before her. But she has yet to learn these commands in English, so her new family may want to learn the words "donne la patte" / "assie" / "reste" et "coucher"

Rosy is looking for a calm family, she likes to have a seat and a breather during long walks and although she is a good little sprinter, she could not be considered as an active running partner. She needs a spot, with a loving family, a blanket and a food bowl and she'll be the best companion ever.

Henry

Meet Henry, a sweet four month old shepherd/husky/lab mix. Henry is vet checked, dewormed, he will be neutered when he is old enough. He is very bright and social. He is both food and praise motivated. He is mostly housetrained. He walks well on the leash and responds well to correction. He loves to play with his foster sister and is friendly with other people. He sleeps very well in his crate. He will be a wonderful addition to any family. Henry is truly a king amongst dogs!

Flurry

Flurry is a very active 8-month-old Husky. Her mother was rescued after she, along with 100 other huskies, were abandoned north of Quebec. She was born in our foster home. She is spayed, UTD on shots and has been de-wormed.

True to her breed, Flurry has tons of energy and needs a lot of exercise to channel all this energy. Properly exercised, she’s an easy and fun dog to live with. She will need an active family who will provide her with regular exercise.

Flurry is crate trained in her foster home and completely housebroken. However, she can be vocal when left alone. She has some basic obedience but an obedience class would be very beneficial to form a strong bond with her new family and to continue her socialization.

Flurry presently lives with 2 border collies and a husky and she gets along fine with all three. She would do well in a home with another dog as she’ll play and wrestle for hours. She will also need a secure fenced-in yard to rule over! She is OK with my cats, however my cats are very dog savvy and will quickly tell her who’s in charge when she attempts to chase them!

Flurry has a lot of potential and will make the right family a great companion.

If you think you can provide Flurry with a safe and loving home, contact Nadine at 819-776-5090 or email at nadine.marcotte@sympatico.ca

Nova

Nova is a Husky rescued from a sled dog breeding operation. He's between one and two years old. He's very outgoing and absolutely loves people. He's such a charmer that his resucers nicknamed him 'Casanova.' He has many typical Husky tendencies. He is a very active dog, who will need a lot of exercise. He loves long hikes and walks, and has learned to play fetch, bike, rollerblade, and even canoe with his foster family. Like most huskies he is a wanderer so he is not ready to be off-leash yet, though he loves to play in fenced-in dog parks. He can play too rough for some other dogs, but will back down when corrected by an assertive dog, and he is currently fostered with another dog. He is great with kids and has even had some positive cat experience!

When he was rescued he had some issues with mouthing and snapping, but he has improved greatly. His behaviour improves significantly when he is well exercised. While he's very active he can also be very relaxed at home and loves snuggling on the couch or snoozing on his bed. He is housetrained and crate trained and is used to being crated during the workday. This loveable guy would make a great addition to your family.

To inquire about adopting Dolly
please call Nadine at
819-776-5090

Dolly

Dolly is a 2 year old mixed breed. She is medium size and very fit. She presently lives
in a house with two other dogs and a cat and gets along well with all of them. She
likes nothing more than to be around her «people» and likes attention. She loves to ride in a car!
Dolly hasn’t had any formal training but is very eager to please. An obedience class
would be a great way for her new family to bond with her.
Dolly is a very nice dog and deserves a family to call her own. She will not be placed
with young children as we don’t know if she has had any experience with
them before she was rescued. If you think you can provide Dolly a safe
and loving home, give us a call!

Sura

This blue-eyed beauty is Sura, a rescue from a sled dog breeding puppy mill. Sura came
to B.A.R.K. pregnant, had eight beautiful puppies and is now ready for a life with her very
own family. She is about 3 years old, spayed and up to date with her vaccinations. She is
also house trained. This sweet and gentle soul was treated badly during her first few years
of life, and as such has a well-earned distrust of adults she doesn‘t know, giving unknown
adults a wide berth. Once she gets to know someone and understands that they are not
going to grab her or hurt her, she will seek out and enjoy their attention. She is very affectionate
with myself and my husband, and enjoys the attention of my grandchildren. Sura gets
along extremely well with other dogs and will welcome a new dog immediately into her play
routine. Her behaviour with cats is unknown. Sura is crate trained and will go into her crate
(in our bedroom) at bedtime all on her own but does not like being crated during the day
and will get quite frantic. Now, if I have to go out during the day I leave her free in the house
with the other dogs and have had no problems at all. In foster care, Sura has become used
to having someone home most of the time. Sura needs lots of exercise and, because
of the husky tendency to wander, a fenced yard. Obedience training in a group setting
will also be very beneficial in helping her to build confidence and trust. This sweet girl is
well worth the effort, and will reward her new family with a lifetime of devotion and love.

Lilly Bea

Lilly Bea is a sweet 20-lb, 18-month old "mini" Beagle. She would make a great family dog. Though she came from the bust of a horrible puppy mill, Bea has the good fortune to be of a resilient nature and she is not traumatized by her past. She is a little shy in new situations but once she warms up to you she is affectionate and playful. She would make a great active family dog for older children. Lilly Bea is also very pretty with her deep red colour. She is completely vetted, spayed, and will be micro-chipped. She is crate & potty trained. Bea likes to explore the back yard, go for walks, play with toys, and like all Beagles she ADORES food! She gets along very well with other dogs. She is OK with dog savvy cats but too forward for cats who are scared of dogs. She is not too vocal but when she does bark, her voice is a beautiful Beagle voice ... an apartment setting would definitely not suit LOL She would love to have a doggie buddy or neighbour to play with and a family that will give her exercise, training and lots of love! She will make a wonderful companion for walking, hiking, camping, travelling and just chilling in front of the TV.

If you are interested in adopting her, please email us at Blue Moon for information and an adoption application at bluemoonrescue@gmail.com, or call us at 613-984-1450 and leave a message.

Peanut

Peanut is a 5 year old Jack Russell wich we have own since she was a baby. She needs a new home without kids and an owner who can deal with her dominant Jack Russell Character. She is up to date with her Vaccines and has been treated for heartworm every year. She is mostly puppy pad trained and although we have started to get her house broken she might need a bit more work on that front. She is a bit "lazier" than most Jack Russells and will gladly sit on your lap for hours to get petted. We love her to death but we need to find her a new home.

Romeo and Emmy need a good forever home. They are purebred registered German Shepherds,
4 yrs old, male and female, both fixed and up to date on their vaccines. The lady that owned them is ill and
cannot keep them. I would like them to go together as they have never been apart and are already
devastated that they don't have their home anymore. Romeo takes a little time to warm up to
strangers but is a big suck when he gets to know you. Emmy is a little timid but very friendly. These
dogs have not had a lot of training and would need someone who is going to take a lot of time
and teach them what they need to know. They are both housetrained and very good in the house
but don't know the basics like sit, down and come. They also require a fenced yard and a child
free home. If you think you can give these two the home they deserve please
contact me at

scharfgate@sympatico.ca.

Duchess

MEET DUCHESS.
Duchess is five years old with a wonderful personality for people, children, and even other animals....
but only inside the house. Outside, she's socially retarded and MUST try to dominate every
non-human creature she encounters. To the eyes of another dog walker, Duchess does not seem
friendly but she's never hurt another dog…she's just trying to be dominant. Thus, any time Duchess
is off leash is risky. On leash is fine though she'll pull and dance and bark at other
dogs. It's the terrier side of her personality you see.

Duchess is quite bright. She does tricks and won obedience school and even met with
the dog psychologist. She's a sweetie but neither treats nor attention short circuit her need to
stalk and pounce on other creatures. So, we walk Duchess on a haltie Now, once she knows
your dog, they're great chums. Duchess is great with our 21 month old little guy Liam and is
very affectionate. She offers the occasional alarm growl or barks if there's a strange noise
or a knock at the door. In our opinion, the perfect spot for Duchess is to be a house dog on
a big property that she can run around on with another dog. Of course, that sounds
like a pretty good environment for almost any pooch! If you'd like to meet Duchess,
we'd love to meet you to see if there's a "good fit".
