Artisans of Muskoka, Huntsville, Ontario

Our History

Artisans of Muskoka began as an artist’s co-operative in April 1993 as a project for a woodworker, a painter, a leather worker, a textile artist, a potter and a stained glass artist. They combined their talents and, on a shoestring budget, renovated the vacant storefront at 67 Main Street East in Huntsville, opening their doors to exhibit their art along with the works of other Muskoka artists and artisans.

As word got around, more and more talented artists brought their handiwork to be sold on consignment, and Artisans of Muskoka’s reputation grew as The Showplace for Muskoka Art. Over time, the original co-op members changed or withdrew, and Artisans of Muskoka is now solely owned by one of the original founders, Michael and Brigitte Grima of Burk’s Falls, who also own and operate The Wooden Roo in Burk’s Falls.

We also invite you to browse through our Wooden Roo showroom on the net where you will surely find that special piece - whether it be decorative or functional. If you need something specific we welcome custom orders.  Our Pine and Oak pieces are expertly handcrafted from the finest materials and lovingly finished - all on the premises. You'll also be pleased with our unique selection of handcrafted gifts - a showplace for many local artisans.  The Wooden Roo Website.

A Little Bit About Our Region

The historic little town of Huntsville is the northernmost point in Muskoka, recognized as the gateway to Algonquin Park, where Tom Thomson and many of the original Group of Seven artists painted in the early twentieth century. The region of Muskoka includes the towns of Huntsville, Bracebridge, and Gravenhurst in the south, and the districts of Muskoka Lakes to the east and Lake of Bays to the west, which borders on our province’s largest wilderness park, Algonquin.

The area is rich in the history of early railway and logging adventures, intrepid settlers, magnificent steamboats and of course luxury vacation homes and resorts. Wilderness trails and parks, breathtaking rugged landscapes and pristine lakes and rivers still abound here, along with a relaxed lifestyle that continues to offer refuge and inspiration to artistic souls, and seduce the traveller to stay just a little longer in Muskoka.
