The Record of my Search:
To make it clear why I looked at the cars I am looked at and why I let so many go, I was after a fairly solid driving project. The car needed not be perfect, but needed to be basically streetable in its current form. Then it could be redone bit by bit as it went. That was the aim.
INSPRIATION - Take a look at this - it just doesn't get any better than this.
Car #1 - Feb 2000 - 1965 Monza 110 coupe - not worth a picture - all the interesting bits are in a box on the back seat.
Car #2 - Oct 2000 - 1966 Corsa 140 coupe - better than it looked, but may have dropped a valve seat.
Car #3 - Oct 2000 - 1966 Corsa 140 convertible - nice car with some structure issues. Almost bought it anyway.
Car #4 - Oct 2000 - 1965 Corsa 140 convertible - very solid vehicle - engine knock & out of my price range at that time. Took a little time off after this to increase the budget.
Car #5 - Mar 2001 - 1966 Monza 140 pg coupe - gorgeous condition, not worth $9000.
Car #6 - Jun 2001 - 1966 Corsa 140 convertible - price is right, one-owner car, but 35 Toronto winters are showing. I like this, but it is more project than I can handle right now.
Car #7 - Jul 2001 - 1965 Corsa 180 convertible - price is right, car is right, I have to buy this!!! But wait, what's that sound? Yes! It's my company crashing! I'm out of a job! No cars right now. ARRRGH! (Bloody dot-coms.)
A change hits the nature of the quest. We move, and that goes over budget. Along with that, the Prelude finally has a catastrophic failure and packs it in. So not only is the car budget cut back, but any car purchased has to fill the void left by the Honda. This car won't just be a neat plaything. It will see some action. The scope of the quest broadens to include Monzas. The Corsa can come when there is time/money for a car that will be babied.
Car #8 - Sept 2002 - 1965 Monza 110 pg - paydirt! This car is coming home...
