The Car I Remember - a 1967 Chevy II
|
Personally, I always thought this was a great car. I loved all old cars as a kid and this one was ours. To me, there is no small irony in the fact that this car now retails for maybe 4-5 times the price of a solid Corvair. That is the benefit of having a very large engine bay in front of a relatively small car. Hard to envision our old grocery getter as a drag racer, but it happens.
When we finally sent it to the wreckers before moving back to Ontario in 1983, I kept the owner's manual and hubcaps. Never know when you might need these things.
I don't actually remember this car being shiny. By the time I remember it well, the paint was all flat, the car was running on bald summer tires in the front and bald winter tires in the back, the seat fabric was letting go, and we'd lost the driver's side rear hubcap and replaced it with a wire one off a Corvette, of all things. It sounds awful, but it really was a cool car and I loved it.
