The Corsa

These were the pictures taken in the fall of 1966 in Gananoque, Ontario.  Each is clickable to see a larger image (my attempt to keep download times manageable).  My uncle recently found the original negs of these pictures, from which these prints were made and scanned.

The picture below was taken during a ski trip to Vermont.  It is the only other known shot of this car.  This is also the only picture with the headrests in place.  Apparently, my father and uncle considered them kind of annoying and often took them out.  My dad's only other complaint about the Corvair was that the transmission would freeze in really cold weather, so the car had to be left to idle for several minutes before it would loosen up and go.  This picture shows a lot of packed snow around the wheelwells.  This is the norm here, sadly.  Makes such a mess out of metal.  I remember my grandparents' car looking like a shark had taken huge bites out of the back end.

The Van (just BTW)

It would be very remiss, on any page dealing with my father's vehicles, not to pay at least some attention to the van.  We got this in 1975, when it was 1 year old, and have had it since.  In the fall of 1999, my fiancee (now my wife) and I took it out east to drive the Cabot Trail on Cape Breton Island, stopping along the way to visit the old family homestead in Pugwash, Nova Scotia.  This picture was taken at the highest point of the climb on that trail.  That truck is in great condition, eh?
