Car #6 - 1966 Corsa 140 (sort of) convertible

This was a one-owner car sold right in Toronto.  There were a few things to like about it.  The top was fairly new and the power mechanism worked perfectly.  The seat covers were in great shape, though the rear seat base was loose.  The brakes had just been gone over and the tires were fresh.  The floors had been patched, but were really pretty solid - and, obviously, it was a Corsa convertible.

On the downside, the car had seen 35 Toronto winters and at least two paint jobs.  Each time, a little more bondo was applied and more mouldings disappeared.  Bondo was cracking all over the place and the area where the marker lights were added was rusting really bad.  The battery tray was a write off,  The engine, originally a 140, had been replaced with a 110 and this smoked something fierce.  It was a strange smoke that didn't seem to really come from anywhere or circulate at all.  It just hung there like a haze over the entire back end of the car.  The flywheel was loose, as well.

The price was not too bad, and I gave this some very serious thought.  Still lacking a garage, though, there really was no way to get at the kind of work this car needed.  After I got a garage, I followed up about this car.  I thought that if it had hung around for a year, it might go a little cheaper.  It had sold, though.

About a month after I bought the Monza, I saw this car appear in an ad.  I never took pictures the first time around, but I am convinced this is the same car.  '66 Corsa 140 (at least on the deck lid), one-owner Toronto car painted cream yellow, the cove not done in silver, black around the rear base, '65-style hubcaps, no wheel or rocker mouldings, aftermarket marker lights mounted high on the rear quarters, this COULD all be a coincidence, but I doubt it.  The price had gone up two and a half times, though.  I am assuming the engine and transmission work was done.  Along the way it seems to have picked up a dual exhaust and apparently a set of headers.  Doesn't look as though the body was done, though.  I wonder what it sold for....
