SPECIAL
NEEDS SECTION
The animals
featured below have had a particularly hard time finding their way home.
Due
to fear or physical trauma from their previous life, they may not "show"
well in the adoption environment but would still appreciate their own home
as much, if not more, than their fellow rescuees.
Potential adoptees must be prepared to invest extra time and attention
to specific requirements, and be willing to let each pet determine the
pace of the relationship.

A "Special Needs" Testimonial
My first experience
with “The Way Home” was when my husband and I fostered and later adopted
Drifter - one of Holly’s “Broken Angels”. We chose Drifter based on Holly’s
description of her nature and the kind of home she needed, and found out
just how accurate Holly was when we brought Drifter home and she settled
right in.
The only surprise
we got was how “normal” a cat Drifter was. We soon found out that just
because she couldn’t run fast enough to catch anything didn’t mean she
couldn’t stalk anything and everything that moved.
I quickly learned
to pretend that I didn’t see that one eye and ear peeking around the nearest
corner as I dusted or mopped. And it didn’t take our little dog long to
find out that Drifter’s favorite game was “Sneak up on the Sleeping Dog”
and that she had better sleep with one eye open.
Now that we have
come to know Drifter, we can’t imagine why anyone would think of her as
handicapped. To us her wobbly little walk has just become part of who she
is - a sweet, affectionate, playful little cat, and we think that we are
so very lucky she found her “way home" to us.
